Lot 4859
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Silvered bronze, 21 mm, 3.84 g, 12 h), Cyzicus, 327. CONSTANTI-NVS MAX AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to right. Rev. PROVIDEN-TIAE AVGG / SMKΔ Campgate with two turrets and no doors; above, star. RIC 59. Slightly rough and with minor deposits, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This coin, most likely dating to late 327, is one of the last instances of Constantine wearing the laurel wreath on a coin. He had gradually developed various diadems during his vicennial journey, and soon after his return to Nicomedia in 327, he was exclusively shown wearing the rosette diadem.
